Choosing a cemetery to protect and preserve the memories of deceased loved ones is a very spiritual, private and important decision. Cemetery Stability: Many small cemeteries have become victims of urban sprawl, community development, or simply stopped operating for any number of financial or social reasons. In most of these cases the cemeteries are relocated to larger, more stable cemeteries. Mount Calvary is the recipient of several of these situations. Mount Calvary’s size makes it economically infeasible for any development efforts to force a move and the cemetery is financially stable. With our many acres available for expansion, Mount Calvary will be here to service many generations of Richmond families.
Beauty and serenity: A cemetery should offer its clients an environment in which loved one’s memories are maintained in the most serene and beautiful space possible so that the spiritual experience is maximized. The cemetery of choice must be readily accessible so that generations of family members can easily and inexpensively visit their past loved ones. Mount Calvary Cemetery is located in downtown Richmond Va. only minutes away from the downtown expressway in the VCU and Maymont Park area. The cemetery can be easily reached from any of the outlying suburbs within 20 minutes. Our central location makes Mount Calvary an ideal location for all future family generations in the Richmond area.
Religious Considerations: Many families desire a cemetery that will support their religious backgrounds and faiths. While primarily Christian based, Mount Calvary welcomes members of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Religious services are held in the cemetery chapel routinely, for burial services as well as services to bless and consecrate the cemetery grounds and departed souls. Mount Calvary charges no fee for the use of the Chapel for these services.
Costs: No discussion of a choice of cemetery can be had without the consideration of cost. For some, it is not an issue but for others it is a necessary ingredient in order to meet the family’s financial budget. Mount Calvary encourages families to look at other cemeteries and compare costs, beauty, location, etc. Our pricing structure is geared toward meeting the needs of our clients. Mount Calvary Cemetery is a non-profit organization therefore our pricing is basically structured to cover our operating costs. Any profits that are realized go right back into the cemetery perpetual care fund or for capital improvements. This structure allows us to keep our pricing lower than most other “for profit” organizations. We believe you will discover that our prices are extremely competitive and usually much less than other area cemeteries even though we offer equal or better services and amenities.
Accessibility and friendliness of staff: After choosing a cemetery, the relationship between the client and cemetery staff lasts for many years. Concerns about lot maintenance, flowers, questions about cemetery policy, assistance with cemetery issues and complaints are just some of the issues that will need to be discussed from time to time with cemetery staff. It is important that the staff members be readily available when needed and friendly with client relations. At Mount Calvary, we are staffed on a full time basis each weekday and some weekends. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via cell phone, fax, and email. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will always be there to assist you with whatever your needs may dictate.
